The hot sun streamed through the clouds as we joined the huge line for tickets of the replica Endeavour. Big cameras with furry microphones seemed to be everywhere! After what seemed like forever, my family, my sister’s godmother, and my friends, Tom, Rylee, Kylie, and Lara had got laminated tickets. Finally! After we snacked on pork buns and gyoza(semi-circled Japanese dumplings) we ordered real fruit ice cream. There was a huge line and it took 30 minutes to receive our ice cream! But, by the time we got our ice cream it was time to get on the replica Endeavour! So, there were two options. We could waste our REAL fruit ice cream by chucking it out on the side, even if it costs a whopping $6.00!! OR, we could stuff the ice cream in our mouth, risking public humiliation. We chose the second option and gulped it down. Then I got a really bad feeling and almost HURLED! But, fortunately we got to the Endeavour and I was so amazed I gulped everything down. A burst of excitement overtook me as I clambered on the Endeavour. It was like I was taken back into a time machine and went back to the year 1769.Then there were “Ooohh’s” and a lot of “ Aaaahh’s”. (Which really got on my nerves.) Thick, worn ropes climbed up, and up. Slick, black cannons were placed on either sides of the boat. It was hard to believe that James Cook and his crew sailed the world on this! It made me want to hurl thinking about rocking forwards and back, forwards and back, rocking forwards and back. Again! The crow’s nest was 14 metres tall! The net up to the crow’s nest was on the edges. The sun’s rays poured out and I started to sweat. It was so… HHHOTT! And also, very… HHHOOOTTT!!! Oh, and did I mention… HHHOOOTTT?! A man suddenly motioned for us to come out. Already? The crowd made disappointed groans and filed out. As I looked back at the majestic Endeavour, a new memory was complete.
Kia ora Catalina,
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible experience for you. Did you get to see the cabins where Captain Cook and the crew slept?
