The Rocketeer

This week we are doing a narrative from the literacy shed called The Rocketeer.
I found it easy to plan it because I did it with the teacher.
I disliked to type because it took a long time.
Here is the link to The Rocketeer
Spitfires zoomed and whirred over head. “ Mama, watch me!” cried Jimmy. He was skipping around with his beloved paper plane. Rubble and dust was swirled and kicked around. Jimmy had straight, black, smooth hair and little overalls. He also had bright blue eyes framed with thick glasses. Jimmy continued prancing around and meanwhile… Sirens screamed and wailed and the ginormous burglar bashed against the trundling car. Jimmy was silently playing with his plane when he heard sirens. Jimmy paused for a moment and the trundling cars smashed through the  brick wall about to run over Jimmy until… The Rocketeer swooped down and scooped up Jimmy. He was safe! Jimmy only got a glimpse of the “who” who saved him. Jimmy was sure he had a golden mask, a turbo boost, and dark, brown leather gloves. Once again the Rocketeer swooped down to the suited burglar. Walloping, dodging, and ducking swiftly. Finally the Rocketeer punched, knocking the burglar out in the process. Yellow teeth went flying to who knows where! Rocketeer shot above the clouds in his victory, and continued to be a hero.

Shoplifter Poster

This week we are finishing our Ghost tasks and today I did his shoplifter poster.
I found it hard to make the path.
I found it easy to poly line ghost.

Spy Ethics - Carmen Sandiego

Today at school our classroom was vandalized. Desks were tipped over, Lego was everywhere, and so was caution tape. On the windows it had Carmen Sandiego was here, MWHAHAHAHA!! We were all so shocked of course. But Mrs Naden is always doing pranks and funny stuff...
We are all now detectives to try and find what artifact Sandiego has stolen.
I have done the spy ethics (rules) that we agents need to follow.
I found it hard to decide what to put on the first slide.
I found it easy to use cool layouts.

This week we are finishing our Ghost tasks.
I found it challenging to find lots of info about Adidas and Nike.
I found it easy and fun to use different layouts.

Phishing and Scams

We made a Gif from google slides at Cybersmart.
It was tricky to take a screenshot because it was from a video.
It was fun to decorate the slides.

Snow White: A twisted tale

We are writing narratives.
I found it hard to make it not so long.
I found it easy to think of what I was going to write.

Snow White and Rose Red couldn’t be more different. But they couldn’t be more the same. Yes, you may have heard the story of Snow White and how she gets poisoned, then wakes up from a kiss from Prince Charming. Like, who names their kid Charming?! Snow White had fled from her evil, wicked stepfather. The King was big, and had almost no neck. Ruthless, and despicable were understatements for King. He beheaded anyone when he got the chance and had stupid rules. Snow White ran and ran as the wind rushed against her face. Finally she couldn’t take it anymore. Panting heavily, she was overcome with fatigue and collapsed on the soft green moss, like a green velvet cushion.

When Snow awoke from her sleep she saw 17 pairs of eyes staring at her. Stepfather? No. Rose? No. Dwarves? Surprisingly, no. Giants. They were big, but not like Snow’s stepfather. They had a kind, twinkling sort of look in their eyes. “Look,it’s Snow, Rose’s sister!” Cried one of them. “Would you like a piece of our broccoli salad?” Snow didn’t want to be rude, so she took a nibble. After awhile Snow felt faint. Like… Like she was going to black out. And she did.

Rose Red was knitting quietly when a note dropped on her lap. “ GO INTO THE WOODS, SNOW’S IT TRUBLE!” Scrawled on it. Yes, reader I know how to spell trouble. Rose rushed into the woods, and found the adorable cottage tucked within the trees. Soon she found her sister. She threw herself into a hug and Snow’s eyes fluttered open. And guess what? They lived happily ever after WITHOUT Prince Charming.

This week we performed at the Turanginui-aa-Kiwa Kapa Haka festival.
This year the whole school performed and I thought that we sounded quite good and this year I was in the front row. Before we got ready and the front row girls wore dresses. Girls had tamokos; stamped "tattoos" on our chins and black lipstick. Girls also had feather to represent the albatross feathers. Boys had mokos stamped of their cheeks. I think we should do it again next year!

Space Race Book review

For reading today we were doing review on the book we have been reading recently.
I enjoyed creating the book review because it let me rethink on what I have just read.
I found it tricky to finish my work.
Space Race Book Review
Authorized by Glynne Maclean
Reviewed by Catalina
Kimi is a spacesider, the pilot and Ben is a human and Team Human’s navigator. In a universe full of aliens, they don’t exactly fit in. But they are determined to win the Space Race. But they encounter someone they didn’t think they would…
Comments: “ I think that Space Race is a very describing and adventurous book, but I think that some of the terms and nouns are confusing.”

Parihaka Poster

In class for Maatauranga Whakapono (Religous Education) we are learning about Parihaka. Parihaka is a village beside Mount Taranaki. Their chiefs were Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kākahi. They both liked the ways of Jesus and tried to follow them. When the NZ government took them into jail becuse of wanting more land, the Parihaka tribe continued and rebuilt their village. And when the government showed up again, instead of fighting back with weapons, they fought them back with kindness. The soldiers felt bad and no one was killed that day.
I enjoyed reading the story because it was very inspirational and kind.
I found it hard to polyline the feather. The feather is from the albatross bird and it left a feather on top of the marae of one of the chiefs. Albatrosses are birds of mana (spiritual power) and was thought to be a good sign.

The Dragon Slayer

In class we are learning to structure narrative writing.
We based our story on the Dragon Slayer. Please be aware that it does lag.
We needed to...
  • use a hook
  • describe the setting
  • describe the characters
  • describe the problem
  • describe the resolution
  • edit for spelling & puntuation
  • present your work to a peer assesment
Tarragon trudged through the thick, wet, mud with his enduring horse, Black Bull. The rain stopped, but the gray, dark, miserable clouds still rolled on. Step after step. Hoof after hoof. The pair stumbled on. The desert was far and desolate, except for a hollow open humongous rock. They had reached their destination. Tarragon and Black Bull entered silently. There she was. Not alert of any danger, the dragon continued to scratch her back. Growling softly, the dragon spotted Tarragon. The dragon slayer pulled out his sword. The battle began. Tarragon yelled aggressively and charged at the dull green dragon but the dragon breathed fire ferociously… Tarragon gripped his sword and plunged it into the dragon’s heart. It had been done. Tarragon was about to slump down on Black Bull, but he heard a rustling in the bushes. 'What was it now?' thought Tarragon. A small, scaly-like body popped out of the bushes. It was a baby dragon. But Tarragon ignored it. He nudged Black Bull. He wouldn’t move. Black Bull jerked his head to the baby dragon as if to say; “You can’t just leave him there, take him.” The dragon was small. Innocent. Ignorant. Tarragon sighed and took the baby dragon in his arms, and he was the dragon slayer no more.

Space Race

This week for our reading tasks, we are reading a book called space race and we need to make a profile for both Kimi Tan and Ben Cormack.
I found it hard to think of what to put on their files because they didn't describe the two much.
I found it easy to find a reusable gif.

The Waka Horua Tairaawhiti Journey

I had the amazing experience going to the waka.
It was hard to think of a summary statment because I didn't kow how to end it.
It was easy to write some bits because I thought of them whilist on the waka.

The waka rocked unsteadily as I placed my foot on the polished wood. I tightened my life jacket nervously. The engine begun and whirred. Pushing and pulling the Hoi with ease, Chris sighed. It wasn’t a I-don’t-want-to-do-this sigh, it was more of an it's-nice-to-be-here sigh. Bright and powerful, the sun streamed through the clouds and a light breeze brushed my hair back. One of the girls from our group gripped the black stay, looking uneasy. As we headed out, the waves got rougher and the waka tipped further one way to the other. Suddenly, the engine stopped and the vibrating underneath my feet calmed. The waves rushed against the sides of the boat and I had to bend legs. My mum had given my medication for my sensitive motion sickness, so I wasn’t too queasy, but still. Breathe in. Breathe out. Repeat.”Okay, team. This is as far as we’ll go, but you can go and explore some parts of the boat.” We were all super lucky to check out cabins ‘cause no one else would be aloud to. When I hauled myself up to the shiny wooden deck, I saw a paint-peeled-old-fisher-man’s-boat that was very ratted and did not look like it had been taken care of, and well… You get the picture. The old boat was oozing and spewing out with, thick, brown, sludge. That’s not right, I thought. There was a huge spill all around the boat. I tried to get the memory out of my mind, but it stuck there, screaming like a banshee, compelling me to do something.” Okay, putting up the sails now.” Yelled Chris, interrupting my deep thoughts. I snapped to my senses and helped out. The sails had a hammerhead shark in maroon, with small stars surrounding it. And the journey continued.

Master Navigator: Tupaia

Last week we were learning about Tupaia. We needed to include in our slide why Tupaia should be remembered.
I found it quite hard to not repeat things on why he should be remembered.
I found it easy to find a compass background because there was many to choose from.
