The Dance

This piece of writing is actually true, and I got so shocked!
I did a little bit of tweaking, because the music person let me redo it.
Our success criteria was to use..

  • Juicy verbs
  • Specific nouns
  • Adjectives
  • Begin a sentence with a juicy verb/specific noun/adjective x4
  • Link beginning and end

The audience claps for the first performer. Silence. Then, a bell jingles. I take a deep breath then exhale. Breathe, I think. Just do your best. My palms tingle with sweat as I skip out on the worn, black, desolate stage. Giving myself a pep talk, I think, fake it till you make it. Suddenly, the music plays. My body jolts with adrenaline. I start my routine, unprepared. I finish my dance, and  the audience gives a roar of applause. Exhausted, I skip back out into the wings, the bell sounds once more.

Rugby World Cup 2019 Quiz

For reading, we needed to make something on our chrome books combining both what Mrs Torrie has taught us this
( Mrs Torrie is our Cybersmart teacher ) and something to do with the Rugby World Cup.

I chose to do a Rugby World Cup 2019 Quiz, similar to my Math Quiz you can see a few posts down on this blog.
I found it hard to fit the countries all in one slide, and will try and fit all of the countries next time.
I didn't find anything easy.

Seeking Help

In Cybersmart today, we learnt how to be an upstander, someone does something about it.
I found it challenging to fit everything in the google drawing.

Rugby World Cup Mash-up

In Cybersmart we made a flag representing a country that was going to the Rugby world cup.
I enjoyed finding Japanese things because I love Japan. I love Japan because of its food.
I found it really hard because we could only use one image off the Internet and we had to draw a different thing on our selves.
Also, we were working buddies and we only allowed to communicate by commenting. It got quite chaotic!
Next time I would try to group the images properly.

Paikea And The Whale

We are learning to infer, or read between the lines.
We read a story called Paikea and the Whale.
We had to make a billboard telling everyone that the Whale saved Paikea.
I enjoyed making the waves.
I found it hard to find a reusable whale image.

Speeches

This week we presented our speeches.
My heart pounded so hard, it felt as if it was trying to rip out of my chest.
We had to use...

  • A clear voice
  • Stand still
  • Speak loudly
  • Go at our own pace
  • Look up at the crowd
  • Use expression
  • Be confident
Our speeches needed to include a rhetorical question and needed to be persuasive.
My speech was on Climate change.
You can read it in my previous post.

Climate Change

We are learning to structure speeches.
I found it hard to find " WOW!" facts.
It was easy to organize my ideas.
Our success criteria were to...

  • Write a title that tells the reader the issue being argued.
  • Use a rhetorical question.
  • Write an introduction that explains my point of view
  • Include definitions for any difficult words
  • Organize my ideas into paragraphs
  • Make sure each paragraph has a main point and two examples
  • Write a conclusion that explains my point of view
  • Edit for spelling and punctuation
  • Present my work to a peer for assessment

Next time I would include which energies are fossil fuels.

We have all heard of it, but do you really know what it is? Climate change and global warming are related but aren’t exactly the same. Global warming is the temperature; climate change is how it affects rainforests and glaciers. Farming, deforestation, and burning fossil fuels help climate change.

The Amazon rainforest is burning down. It was meant to get burned down only a little bit but got out of control, and now the damage can be seen from space! The Amazon forest is so big, its nickname is “the lungs of the earth” because it is 20% of the planet’s oxygen.

The earth’s atmosphere is getting hotter which causes the glaciers to melt. The sea level is rising, and small islands like the Maldives, are disappearing. As the glaciers are melting, animals like polar bears, are having to swim long distances, though they are not designed for that.

How is climate change caused? We all know that burning fossil fuels get trapped into the earth because of the atmosphere. But what else can cause it? Amazingly, farming is contributing to climate change! How? Well, it gets even crazier! When cows eat, methane gas builds up in their system, which is a greenhouse gas, comes out… as a fart! Just imagine 1.5 billion cows releasing all that! Deforestation helps climate change. Forests are very convenient to get rid of carbon dioxide - a greenhouse gas.

Something just as easy as switching off the light, or taking 4-minute showers to save energy, money, will prevent more climate change.

Contributing  - helping
Methane - A greenhouse gas that builds up in cows’ systems.

Fossil fuels - Fuels that were formed millions of years ago.

Sploosh!

Today our class had to make an advertisement on Sploosh or ways to recycle old sneakers. I chose Sploosh. Sploosh is peaches in lots of different spices, like nutmeg, and cinnamon.
I enjoyed playing around with different fonts and colours.
I found it challenging to fit everything into the google drawing.
Next time I would put where the item could be purchased.
I think I am proud of the slogan.
Our success criteria were to include...

  • The price
  • Persuasive language to entice customers
  • Eye-catching images
  • A catchy slogan
  • Where the item could be purchased
  • A celebrity endorsement
Yellow: Yes, I've done it.
Orange: Not really...
Pink: Not at all
